If you are responsible for managing globally distributed projects, this book is a fairly useful, practical guide. The authors — both experienced project-management professionals & certainly understand the needs for the neo-global middle-level project managers and try to provide practical tips.

The book starts with the introduction of the concept of a virtual manager, and goes on to explain how to create and manage virtual teams, delving into aspects of virtual management, including teamwork, communication, virtual leadership and even virtual politics. Along the way, it touches traditional management areas such as conflict management and time management. Two chapters are devoted to global services delivery, one focusing on managing global teams and the other on outsourcing.

While easy to read, the book is a textbook in all senses of the word, and you must be in a learning mode to digest its content. Yet, that does not take away from its utility as a how-to book for the hands-on managers.
